In History, we are learning about life in the colonies and how they compare to our lives today. Life in colonial cities is similar to life in cities today. People go to cities to find jobs and live where there are more resources. The educational opportunities in colonial times are much different than they are now. Today all children are required to go to school and receive an education. Back then, most children didn't go to school. In 1647 to encourage education in Massachusets passed a law that towns with fifty or more families had to hire an instructor to teach the children how to read and write. Towns with one hundred or more families were required to build a school house. The leisurely activities in colonial times are also very different than those today. The colonial children played tag and had dolls, but today technology is the main form of entertainment. All in all our lives today are very different than those back then.

I should have included that bit about Massachusetts passing the law in my blog!
